Location: Cincinnati, Ohio | I am new to Ovation. I have really liked them through the years and finally started playing again after a break of about 25 years. I have bought 3 Ovations. 1 Celebrity, 1 Glen Campbell, and one that dates back to 1979 with an aluminum frets. My question is the body on all of them is very sound, but the surface needs to be redone. I contacted Ovation and they said that all of their guitars are coated with Polyurethane. What is the best way to remove the coating without using chemical that would break the bond in the glue that holds the tops and bridges. I know sanding would be ok but would take forever. But if that is what I have to do that is ok, I have done it before. Are there any suggestions. Good to find a forum that specializes in Ovation guitars and people who enjoy them.
