He's not an O player, but this is probably my favorite YouTube video EVER. Pat Metheny is my favorite jazz guitar player. If you've never heard of him, you've really missed out. He just won his 20th Grammy a few weeks ago. He usually plays an electric, but here he is playing a classical with fingernails, like a classical player. Enjoy, esp. if you like the Beatles:

Check out this concert at a jazz festival in Europe. He plays many different guitars at this concert. WHAT is he playing around 18:00?? I usually see him play the one he's playing at 24:15, which I think is an Ibanez PM1000. I think it must have been made especially for him, given the PM (Pat Metheny?) in the model number. Sometimes I think he also plays a Gibson ES-175.

Been a fan since "Bright Size Life" Pat, Jaco, Bob Moses. Amazingly versatile player. He has done everything from pop to driving bebop ("Question/Answer" with Holland and Haynes) and beyond ("Song X".

I could listen to Pat Metheny all day! Did you see how he switched from fingers to pick, then back to his fingers without missing a beat? He had the pick in his mouth, grabbed it, played with the pick for a bit, then put it back in his mouth so he could play with his fingers again.
I saw Metheny perform in Raleigh, NC back around '81 or '82 I think it was. College days as a guitar major. Those were the days.

The first Pat Metheny track I ever heard was "Phase Dance" which was released on the first Pat Metheny Group album. Although it was released when I was still in high school, I didn't hear it until I was in my second year in college as a guitar major studying classical guitar. One of my fellow guitar majors turned me onto Pat Metheny and I've been hooked ever since: (I have no idea how to embed a video in a post, so here's the link) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hhtSbptacb0
I remember using the kind of pick-up he used in his acoustic guitar. It's the kind that's clamped in the center sound hole. I used one in my first guitar, which was a Yamaha FG-110 back when I was in high school.
