Since I got my Custom Legend in June, I've kinda left my Adamas alone. I have the D-35 Martin for acoustic and the little Celebrity's to leave around the house. I've had a cruddy set of strings on the Adamas since January. I put a set of Martin Acoustic FX Flexible Core Silk and Phosphor strings on it today and I'm not kidding, I forgot how wonderful this guitar is. I put all the other guitars away and this one is going to get my sole attention. The bass side is literally knocking my head off and the 11 tops are so easy to bend. These strings are well balanced and really cheap on the Strings and Beyond site right now. Bogo. I got 6 sets. Someone PM me in about 6 months and remind me how great this guitar is. I get so caught up in everything else sometimes I forget. I just had to tell you, there is NOTHING like an Adamas. Period. Thanks for being here. Nobody else understands.

Gotta agree with you about the W597 Bass strings. I have not experienced that in another Ovation, previously. Unfortunately, I did not find that low bottom singing out in a live situation. Have you?

And thanks from me for leading me to the Strings and Beyond site! I too like the Martin FX strings and nobody carries them in my area. I ordered enough sets to get me some free shipping on them on top of the great price!

I used that W597 as my primary a/e for a looong time. I just hear the monitor mix. Which, by the way is very good, but I haven't heard the guitar out front in a while. It has an OP50, so it's got lots and lots of highs, and I finally bought a set of Airlocks, that broke the epaulets. I've started playing my Custom Legend AX and I really like the way it sounds. It's way easier to control the feedback on. Monttexan. Strings and Beyond is my go to site for strings AND guitar picks. Kristi in customer service is a gem. I bought some really great Wegen Bluegrass 1.20's. I'm hooked for life. A LOT less click-clack than the V Pick and way less expensive than the Blue Chip. I've played a long time and for the very first time I have hand-brain sync because of Wegens. The perfect pick for acoustic strings.

Normal price for EJ16 at JustStrings.com is $4.64 each. They're on sale right now for $4.16.

80/20s (EJ11) are normally $3.93 and are on sale right now for $3.53 each.

10-packs of EJ16 are on sale for $38.07.

Based on this recommendation I have a set of the Martin FX flexible core strings on the q597 right now... they are three weeks old now and just hanging in there. I had not previously tried a flexible core string so it was a pleasant surprise to find that I had much of the bright sound that comes from the D'Addario EJ26 phosphor bronze strings with the added benefit of a soft-touch from the flexible core. May keep using them or perhaps switch back and forth with the D'Addarios.

I agree - the flexible core Martins added quality to the bass.

Also - for those that don't know... Rohrbacher titanium strings are also "soft". I tried a set on the q597 but the titaniums are not even close to being bright enough for me... so I swapped them down to my little martin - they have been on the little martin for about four months and sound great on that guitar !?!...
