Location: Boise, Idaho | I missed a day and came back to this thread with 3 posts that brought out some envy:
1. I am happy with my 1537, but envious of Damon"s, which I saw again last week. A beautiful sunburst that he got for a ridiculous price. I hope he never has to sell that until some lottery winner makes him an offer he can't refuse;
2. Tony's retirement. Congrats to a great guy. I'm not far behind. We met with a retirement planner last night and found out we have a 90% chance of retiring fairly comfortably in a couple years and could do so next year when I turn 60. Now to figure out whether I want to ease out or walk out and not look back;
3 Dave's hike in the Utah canyons. I made a quick trip to Arches a couple years ago and really want to get back down to southern Utah when we can spend some time. Tentative plans have started for a few Memorial Day trips down to Santa Fe, with stops in Utah (which brings me back to being jealous of Tony's retirement).

Location: Flahdaw | Hate to be a gloomy gus, Mark, but I wouldn't assume ANYthing when it comes to having enough for retirement. This country is in serious financial shape and is going to have no choice but to come after those that have any money at all. Unless you HATE your job, I would continue to work at some capacity to generate additional income....in other words, "ease out." |

Wishing the rest of you out there the happiest and most meaningful of holiday seasons -- especially DaveKell who remains looking for a 1537 to share some time with before moving through the veil. I have owned and sold about 5-6 of these over the years in natural, black, and amazing tobacco sunburst and eventually sold them all. Great guitars but I guess I am just more of an Adamas kinda guy. |

Location: Jet City | Odd. Not only did they not come with carved bridges and truss rod covers, but they didn't have a truss rod... or a shallow bowl for that matter. I also don't see knobs which makes some sense since the bridge is an acoustic only. I know a couple shallow ones were made, but I don't know if they share the same model# If it was a 1537 at some point it isn't one anymore.

Damon, it's an acoustic only 1337 (I think that was the model designation -- somebody will correct me if I'm wrong). A few were made, but not many. I would guess that the top has been re-surfaced (again, the correct term is eluding me) where the bridge and epaulets, along with the finish are ground off. The top is refinished (this is normally done to correct finish checking/cracks) and a new bridge and epaulets are put on. Those epaulets look too new to be original, and the bridge just isn't.
As to the truss rod cover, I've seen a number of guitars where somebody has glued on a decorative truss rod cover just because they like the look...... |
