Sara's Ute has some kind of delamination in the top behind the bridge. The bubble is visible in the pictures. It is a bit soft to the touch. From the underside the bracing is all attached and there is no deformation at all of the underside. I believe the top layer of the fibronic sandwich is pulling off internally.

Can the factory do anything to stabilize this? Or do we wait for it to become unbearable and then send it in for replacement?

Yup, those look like they fall into the "That shouldn't happen" department.
Keep us posted.

You want to send the email to John. Kim is working for Guild and Hamer customer support now. John does Adamas/Ovation.

That looks like a new top. What colour does she want?

You read my mind!

John B. says it will need the top replaced. So now is her chance to get a custom color, different bridge, etc. She has said many many times that this guitar is perfection, that there is no other guitar she has ever played (and there have been many good ones) which match her the way this one does. She may end up getting an identical finish on it. The ball is in her court now to decide and for me to pay. Somehow it always goes like this!

What type of strings (light, mid or high tension) do you use?
I have not seen an Adamas with this type of problem before. A new top is the way to go.

Sara always uses lights. Her new favorites are the Adamas brand phos bronze. I haven't tried them on my guitars yet but on her Ute they are the best yet. Previously she liked Martin Marquis SP, but those are no longer being made.

As far as I know she has never had mediums on that guitar. I've had mediums on my 2080 a few times with no problems but from now on I'll only use lights unless I am in a dropped tuning.

The factory has received the guitar but we don't have the work estimate back yet. Sara after much consideration has decided to keep the configuration exactly as it was so that the sound and feel don't change.

I'd be interested to hear the Mothership's opinion on why this happened. String tension couldn't have caused this problem even if she'd used heavy gauge strings, as the top itself was not pulled out of shape, only the top laminate.

The lifetime warranty only applies to the original purchaser. If the guitar changes hands, it's out the window.

The repair bill is in and it is shockingly reasonable. They will replace the bowl, top, and epaulets. They are also repairing some minor dings in the back of the neck which look as if Sara has played wearing rings on her left hand or perhaps pressed with a metal capo. I was expecting repairs to be 3x this much.

Good news. I felt a bit sick after seeing the photos and went and inspected my collection straight afterwards. Good to hear the Mothership is still looking after us weirdos.
