Location: New Bern, NC | If you take your guitar out of town, how do you feel about leaving it in a motel/hotel room? I'm headed to Williamsburg, VA to tour the historic area and I'm taking my guitar with me. I hope to meet up with an old college friend who also majored in guitar in college when I was there. I'm hoping we'll have the chance to jam a little, share some songs, relive old college days, etc. I am a bit leary about leaving my guitar in the motel room. It's too big to go into a hotel safety deposit box! |

You could bring some kind of cable lock to run around the case and through the handle then attach it to something in the room. I wouldn't bring anything too valuable. Alternatively you could talk to the manager and see if there is a safe place other than a little safebox which they could put it in.
Or see if your friend can bring a couple of guitars.
Another option is to put the Do Not Disturb sign on the door handle, leave the tv on with the sound on (not too loud), and tell the front desk you don't want maid service that day. In theory they won't open your door at all.
As a professional traveler I am fairly trusting of most hotels which are better than say a Motel 6 or Holiday Inn but I wouldn't tempt fate too much. |

Location: Denver, CO | I've never had a problem. I almost never go out without a guitar, and almost never have any concerns that it will be safe in the room. Until the last few years, I always travelled with a case full of pool cues, and never had any trouble with them either. I agree with Sig. If you feel uncomfortable, just ask the manager to keep it in his/her office while you are out. |
