I sent an e-mail to Ovation about what the differences were between these two guitars, other then the nicer tuners and a little more detail in the wood work around the sound holes. Answer:

" These are the same basic guitar the 1758 has fancier appointments and a higher grade spruce top. "

Just thought it was a good FYI for those who were wondering, like me.

If I remember the pictures you posted on another thread correctly, the 1736 had a Walnut fretboard and the 1758 is ebony.

I always prefer ebony on acoustics (although I have a guitar with a cocobolo fretboard that plays REAL nice.)
I always prefer maple on electrics

Perhaps the ebony fretboard was an option. The 1758 I purchased from GC, which will arrive later this week, looks to have the same fretboard as the 1736. The one on CraigsList looked to have a darker wood, like Ebony. I'll know more when I see it in person.

Very similar. I would say both necks are the same wood. A little fancier wood work, but that's about it.

Acccording to the Ovation archive (which admittedly has nearly as many glitches as facts) the Legend Elite had a rosewood fingerboard and the 1758 had walnut. Both nice guitars though I would think.

The sales guy made the 1736 sound a lot cleaner and kinda wondered why I picked the 1758. I hope it's clean up able. It looks pretty good.

I definitely prefer the look of the epaulets on the 1758. Very similar.  Two black beauties, fer sure. Did you buy it, John?

Yes. I bought the 1758. Now, I have to wait until MONDAY to see it at my front door. I don't know whether to have UPS stop it at the local distribution center , where I can pick it up after work, or take the afternoon off to wait for it.

Agreed. I prefer the additional wood detail of epaulets on the 1758.

John,

Just take the day off! Go wild! You've been hunting for a while now, and you have purchased a FAB guitar. Enjoy the afternoon while you're waiting ... take care of tasks undone so that you can devote time to getting acquainted with your new guitar. I'm really excited for you, and look forward to some pics, etc.

I tend to go for the higher end models myself. Maybe it's the bling or better components, but I've never been dissatisfied with my choice later on. Hope you enjoy your new guitar.
