Location: Seattle | Recently purchased a Roland GR-55 Guitar Synth and I am considering installing the GK-3 pick-up on one of my Ovations.
The idea of attaching the pickup to the sound board (to my least interesting Ovation of course) with double stick tape or screws gives me pause.
The idea of being able to loop (adding things like orchestra swells, piano, and horns) makes me want to go for it.
Has anyone had experiance putting the GK-3 midi pick up on a Ovation acoustic?
If so are there any suggestions or known pitfalls?

Location: sitting at my computer | Haven't done it yet, but the idea of adding a synth has been intriguing me for awhile and I did do a little research. Found out that Ovation had (briefly) added a Roland pickup to a few Custom Legend models, R869 (see links below). Search the OFC archives for some posts on the topic. You probably already know, but Roland also makes a "built-in" install version, and there are other companies with midi pickups too. Good luck, and post your progress! Location: closely held secret | Put one on a 94 Ultra, didn't like the response. Moved it to my 1271 Viper and was much happier with it. |

Location: Chicago | My buddy Jeff has been employing a Roland synth hook-up with his Ovation Elite for a few decades. (Hey, Jeff, chime in here and share your knowledge and experience!) From an observer's vantage-point I will say that the pickup has been a bit touch-and-go over the years. Attaching the pickup and the actual tracking function have given Jeff some trouble. Moreover, the Roland patches are familiar and need to be used (IMO) more as a bit of "color" rather than full-on substitutes for a melodic instrument. W've all had enough of Al DiMeola's pan-pipe and other patches.... When we finally made it to the studio, we opted to ditch the synth, despite it's entertainment value on the bandstand. |

| I had installed a GK2 on my 1869. I used double faced tape and had to use layers of the tape as shims to achieve the proper height and angle. It worked well in terms of operating the synth, but I soon tired of the one man band aspect of the whole thing as well as the tap dance one must do with the patch switches etc. The good news is that the pickup was removed cleanly with no vestige of ever having been there. |

Location: Jet City | I made the decision to go electric with the gk instead of acoustic. I wanted the most versatile instrument possible to be able to utilize more of the nuances of the different instruments so I picked up an electric with a rolling bridge Khaler tremolo. |
