I've been chugging away with my 17in Powerbook G4 1.67 for way too long. Now too many things don't work with it, so it was time to make a change. Since it's coinciding with my final car payment, I decided to go all out and just replace that car payment with a computer payment for the next 12 months.

What I really wanted was something that could handle multiple tracks, each with various effects, yadda yadda going in Logic Studio. A computer that could take advantage of Logic's hyperthreading and multi-core capabilities.

I did it. I took the big jump. I have a computer payment now.

With dual 2.4 quad core Xeon "Westmere" processors, Logic performs flawlessly. No more latency issues, no more turning off tracks and effects just to get things to run without hiccups.

Oh, and threw the new iPad "Retina Display" thing on there too. Fun new exciting technologies, I'm so excited! I can't wait to see toys I'll need to buy to use that thing with. The Mackie mixer looks pretty cool, and Behringer has a couple offerings out too.

Expect to hear some new recordings soon.

Cool.

Me, I'm just having a great time being hypnotized by my iPad. Just the thing for those of us (unlike Damon and many others here) who know bugger all about computers but want to have fun with them.

Garageband on the iPad is just wa-ay too easy. Reminds me of the Groucho Marx quote: "This is so simple a child of 6 could understand it! Someone find me a child of 6!"

Hats off to Damon for mastering this stuff. At this point in my life, I have neither the time nor the patience to work my way through more technology. Its all I can do to master control over my own tone settings playing live. I'll leave the sound engineering and recording to the experts.

I'm still trying to figure out the new Fender G-dec I got last Fall. I got a footswitch, which gives me a looper that I can work with my foot. Trying to loop with a push button that you have to take your hands off the guitar didn't work too well. I still haven't downloaded the software that came with the G-dec. This all takes more time than I have. I try to spend as much time as I can outdoors during the Summer, so it's hard to spend any time with electronic stuff.
I've got a concert going on right now outside my office window, which happens every Wednesday evening during the summer. Tommy Emmanuel is playing in the theatre across the street tomorrow night, but I have a conflict. Too many things to do, especially in the summer.
