Stumbled upon an AA-12 on ebay. Not the current AA12, which is a travel guitar (sorta). This is exactly like an American aluminum necked AA-14 but with no pickguard. Does anyone know about this model? I'm wondering if it might have been a last minute addition to the line before they moved production to Korea. I don't have it in hand so I can't tell any more than the pic shows. Did they ever make aluminum necked Applauses in Korea? If it's Moosup, then I want it in the collection.

It got weirder.

UPS delivered it, I pulled it out of the box and case, gave it a quick tune, strummed one chord and said... wait a second. Something's not right. This sounds like an Academy.

Yep. It's a hybrid. Applause neck, regular bowl, Academy plastic top, Applause rosette, no guard. Quite the oddball!

I popped the neck and it's dated March 29, 1982. Wish I knew when the last ones came out of Moosup. Seems like it might have been about that time.

They didn't waste many parts, most everything got used somehow.

Good find!

*sigh* wish Beal was around. I could pick his brain something fierce.
