Location: Massachusetts | Well I doubt that a response will ever get back to this guy, but a word to the wise is to keep your solid wood guitars humidified to around 45% humidity to prevent this from happening. It happened to my Balladeer years ago because I didn't know how to care for a solid wood top. When I bought my Taylor it came with a humidifier. I went out and bought a hygrometer from a cigar store to keep in my cases. I now place a piece of sponge in a small plastic container with holes punched in it (that I picked up at a dollar store), and keep it moist (not dripping wet) in my solid wood guitar cases. I even put one in an electric case when I discovered "fret spout" in the neck, which was caused by the neck getting dry and shrinking slightly.
When I found my Balladeer cracked I took a full sized wet sponge and put it in the guitar body and left it in the case for a day. When I checked on it the crack had completely closed up, so I let it dry for a week or so and used wood glue in the crack and held it together with a clamp. Then let it set for a few days. That was a few years ago and it is still holding. Oh yeah, the bridge came off also. I used Titebond wood glue and some very small screws to hold it on. This is probably not the recommended repair technique, but everything is still holding together and sounding good. |
