| I have an older shallow bowl artist. It would be interesting to compare the difference with the newer mid-depth bowls. |

| So, the early midbowls were just a bit deeper, I guess. I haven't played a new Ovation in quite a while. My old country artist is lite weight and very comfortable to play. Needs a preamp, or maybe just a tech who can read my schematic and repair this one. I'd like to keep it original. |

Location: SoCal | I know I'm going to get the numbers wrong as this is off the top of my head, but weren't artist depth bowls about 5 1/4" deep, while the mid depth bowl is 5 3/8"? Something like that..... |

| If that's the case then the early artist bowls were more shallow. I get that confused. That and the fact that I've never seen an artist bowl Adamas I. |

Location: SoCal | Ok. I've looked it up. These numbers are from the catalogs...
From the 70's and early 80's -
Deep bowl -- 5 13/16"
Artist --- 5 1/8"
SSB -- 4 3/16"
Bowl depths changed somewhere in the 90's to 2000 to
Deep -- 5 3/4"
Mid -- 5 1/4"
SSB -- 4 1/16" |

| There's a 1980 Country Artist (serial# 223251) on ebay. The seller says it has a cedar top, but I don't remember them being made with cedar tops, just the classicals in a deep bowl had cedar tops, correct? |

Location: NJ | Some spruce tops CAN "look" like cedar . . .
My spruce-topped CBalladeer looks more cedar than the cedar-topped Classical. |

Location: Central Florida | They're a bit pricey, but if the 40th Anniversary Glen Campbell reissue models are still available, you won't find a better sounding example of the GC Artist Balladeer than those. The reissues are very special guitars indeed. I've been the very proud and happy owner of one for about 3-4 weeks now, and it has all THE tone that first caused a bunch of us to jump on the Ovation band wagon all those years ago. |

Location: Phoenix AZ | I agree with Jeff 100%. The GC reissue is in my opinion one of THE VERY BEST wood topped guitars that Ovation has ever built. To my ears it's "right there" with the FD14 and original shiny Balladeers.
Speaking of shiny balladeers ... naw, never mind I won't hijack the thread.
