I've been lusting after one for many years, being the type who gets misty eyed when the National Anthem fires up. I just haven't had the guts to buy a used one for fear of some unseen major problem or they were too beat up. This is #952 of 1776. It has sat in its case untouched for 36 years...not a scratch or mark anywhere; just a little crazing on the rosette. Besides the obligatory strings it did need a tweak or two and was kind of dried out. My buddy Scott owns and operates Big Johnson's Guitars in Litchfield CT and he very kindly paid me a visit and went to work on it. Scott removed the strings, bridge and 3 shims and the TRC. He then used scotch brite 4 and his 'secret' formulas on the fingerboard and carefully buffed the top with some stuff that costs $30/bottle; yeah he had to point that out. Right away it really came to life visually and the FB drank up the moisture. The neck was slightly adjusted and the shims, TRC and strings were reinstalled. It plays and sounds wonderful as you would expect. Trust me it will never sit in its case for long again. https://picasaweb.google.com/105567705311232066629/Patriot?authkey=G...

In a moment of financial weakness I told my wife I was considering selling it. She put a firm and final kibosh on that idea. It sounds great. It plays great. It looks great. It's #76. It stays. I love her....and the guitar.

Decided that meeting up, paying cash and getting it home on the plan was too much hassle, so I dropped it. Then my wife said she didn't begrudge me my guitars, so I tested her. ProfessorBB looked at it for me and I bought it. She never even gave me "the look" and called our nephew who was driving back from Kansas and paid him some gas money to pick it up. The amp I'm looking at might push her over the edge, though. Edited by Mark in Boise 2012-05-01 6:20 PM
