Another one I kick myself over everytime I think about it. Frickin gorgeous top, smooth neck transition, killer Super Distortion pups... man! At least it's close by. I had the chance to visit with it again during our NW Gathering last summer.

It really is an awesome guitar. It was just the right combination of parts that make it work I think. I honestly don't think it was planned to come out as good as it did.. Oh sure.. set neck, schaller hardware and dimarzio pickups and you can't go too wrong, but I think the combination of woods that were used, the finish, and all that resulted in a special "mojo" combination. Other guitars, made at different times by just about anyone who makes guitars, just do not sound or feel the same as these GP's. The GS's are nice guitars, with the same sort of theory behind them, but they sound like any other strat copy with dimarzio pickups, but the routing around the body makes it look cool. You could buy all the parts easily today, you'd pay way more than you could pick up a GS for, and it would sound as you'd expect. It would sound like a strat style guitar with dimarzio pickups.

I used DiMarzio Super 2's on several guitars and frankly didn't notice anything special about them until I played a GP the first time. They sound different in a GP. Don't know why, don't really care... they just do.

For those that have played the Academy guitars.... it's same kinda thing.. compared to other guitars, even other ovations in the same class, it sounds Waaaaay better than it should. The GP wasn't a cheap guitar to start out, just a combination of import and usa products assembled in Connecticut. But I'll hold it up against a Les Paul any day of the week. The only department that it falls short is weight. It's a heavy bugger. But, maybe that in itself is the reason for the tone.

Who knows... but glad I have one

I lack your photography skills Damon, but a good friend was able to take these of my Wine GP.
