Hey Folks!

The neck on my newly acquired '74 1614 is a little rough along the middle strip of the five laminations. The finish is fine and there are no cracks - splits or anything. I can just feel a very slight "rib" along the length. I guess after 38 years there has been some expansion that has varried among the five pieces or something. I have finished the set up and this is like a final detail.

Was thinking of a light wet sanding with 1500 grit paper to smooth it up. I don't want to make the finish dull, just polish it smooth and retain the original lustre. The Ovation five piece neck is truly something to behold! Any suggestions would be most appreciated!

I think any abrasive will effect the gloss finish. At best, you might be left with a satin finish. You ar right about the 5 piece Ovation neck, strength and beauty!

That is my concern John - dulling the gloss. Maybe someone has run into this very slight "rib" that is barely felt along the neck's middle. Maybe using an even higher grit paper and non silicone polish (I have) would make it smoother without the loss of gloss. If I call Stew-Mac, I'm sure they will have a "Cart" full of stuff for me. Then again - I may just live with it - and could.......
