We have the resources available today that make getting them back a good possibility, unless the ultimate destination is a dishonest collector who hides them away forever. Don't wait for the police to handle it. Get involved and make things happen right away. I recovered two stolen Ovations starting with a simple post in the OFC.

Well, some internet searching revealed that the continuous power requirements and the device's size (i.e. lack of conceal-ability) were the two main hurdles at the moment. No doubt some bright person will eventually figure it out though. I did find a company / service that has scannable chips (similar to those used for recovering lost pets) that might help return some stolen items to their owners. http://www.snagg.com/faq.htm However, it's dependent upon the pawn shop or buyer having the item scanned, but at least it's something... especially if you've got a guitar worth thou$ands at risk. An insurance policy might be a good idea too. Careful, it's a jungle out there!

It seems that they would have had these collectible guitars cloned for stage use instead of using the real thing and take a chance of them being damaged or stolen. I hope they are recovered for the guys. This is the reason I don't bring my vintage guitars to gigs where I can't be with them at all times.

Joined: December 2005 Posts: 247 Location: Seacoast NH | There was a story in the news a little while back (may have even come across it here) about a guy in Vermont that had his late brother's Telecaster stolen from him. His brother had passed away from a brain tumor, but was able to hang out with Pearl Jam for a while when he was sick, and they all autographed the guitar and gave it to him. It obviously meant a lot to his brother, and was his prized possession. The story wound up in national news, and just before Christmas the guy gets a package delivery from Fender Musical Instruments. Turns out Pearl Jam heard about this, remembered the kid from years before, and sent his brother another Telecaster signed by all of them. Nice to see a good thing come of a bad situation, those guys are a class act apparently.

Way to go Culver City Police Dept.

I believe Carvin has been using this device on all of their custom shop guitars. It's called a Snagg, here's a link: http://www.snagg.com/ Certainly can't hurt to have extra protection. Especially on your favorite instruments.
