I have a friend, Larry, who is a street musician. He plays a Martin D-18, straight acoustic.
He has expressed an interest in trying-out a Carbon-fiber guitar, but whenever I brought-out either of my Adami I could not find him.
I ran into him today and I had the 1681 with me.
This guy is an awesome musician, and he has been busking since the 60's.
So I handed him the Adamas then stepped back and let him go.
I stood about 10 feet away... and it was Loud (no amplification).
So, yes... They do sound different when you are on the receiving end.
It sounded great. Larry recommended that I put some heavier strings on it for playing straight acoustic and get rid of those girly EXP11's that I have on there.
He said that he uses .013's on his Martin, but he plays sans amplifier.
I might consider that one day.

But anyway... I have had this guitar almost Three years and this is the first time I got to hear it from an objective point of view.

Just wanted to share that.

Ooh yeah, when my nephew played my 1680 it was a similar experience "Does it really sound THAT good?".

Arthur, When I started selling and trading some of mine, I would call my brother, who is also a guitar player, and ask him to come over to play them ALL for me, so that I could listen from the receiving 'live' side. Only then could I even begin to make 'executive' decisions. Still I regret letting every single one I let go ... leave. The 1681 is STILL one of my very, very favorites. Hell, I never owned one I didn't love. The twelver I sold to a very nice gentleman in Germany was THE best 12 string I had ever heard ... EVER and was a fabulous player. That was a 1685. You might remember the photos. I DO hope to acquire another 1681 someday. I bet you (and your ears) were smiling!

P.S.

I edited this post and now there's all those dang "p's" in brackets again. What the HAY!!!?

Willa

Here was the amazing part of hearing this thing...
I play through a Roland CubeStreet amp so people can hear me, But!
The 1681 was quite loud and clear just by itself. And this was outside.
Larry is used to playing busking outside, so he has that loud acoustic technique down from the old daze before Ovation.
But I was impressed.

As to the P's... I have not used the "Rich Text Editor" and I don't think that I will.
I am still pretty computer illiterate, so I avoid anything fancy.

Hi Arthur,
the 1681-7 you posted here and I bought was not the best cup of tea for me, I've sold her to fund the 1680, which is absolutely "my" guitar. I'm the one , Willa discribed as a nice gentleman from Germany.... Thank you very much, Willa!!! The 1685 from her is indeed the best sounding and playable 12 stringer I've ever owned. This guitar will never leave my stable!
And I've had the opportunity to buy a 1881-5 which was preowned by an endorsee. This is the best ever playable guitar I've had in my hands.
But I'm looking for a 1681-5 with the new FET preamp as well. They are wonderful guitars......

When I want to hear what one of my guitars sounds like from in front, I try to get someone who has the same "attack" as I do. Some people play louder than others. I want to know how *I* sound on each guitar. (Fortunately there is someone here in town who fingerpicks with about the same intensity as I do.)
