Hello everyone! As I posted over in the for sale section, I've been lurking around here for a few weeks now, but had to accept the inevitable earlier today and signed up. I could hardly deny my Ovation addiction any longer having just bought my second Ovation in as many months. I guess you could say I've jumped in with both feet since I'd never heard of Ovation before December 2011. I've been fumbling along for a few months learning guitar. A friend who's played for 30+ years helped me pick out my first guitar which was a Kona that I scored for $75 from a local pawn shop. It sounded good (particularly for its price) and was a good guitar. My wife wanted to upgrade me for Christmas so I was keeping my eyes open on Craiglist and such. Early in December someone posted an acoustic/electric for sale; some brand called, "Ovation?" I looked up the Ovation website and they sounded pretty cool from a science behind/history perspective so I called the guy and arranged to go take a look. It turned out to be a Celebrity C44 (black with epaulettes the color of fall leaves; just beautiful IMHO) with the mid depth bowl. I liked how it felt while playing the few chords I know and a scale or two. I asked the guy to play a little something so I could listen to the guitar and I liked it even more! The only thing wrong with the guitar was old strings so I bought it; $325 including a Roadrunner hard case. Score! I like it a little more each time I play it. I showed the Celebrity to the friend who helped pick out my Kona. He's had Taylors, at least one Ovation, Takamines, and currently has a Martin that he raves about. He started playing my "O" and couldn't put it down for about 30 minutes! His final determination was that he's not a good enough player for that guitar. I guess I done something right buying it! I'm sure the strings I put on it helped. I know they help me to be able to practice longer before my fingers give out. I put Martin Acoustic FX Silk and Phosphors on; they're nice and soft for newbie fingers and they sound great on the Celebrity.

Fast forward to today. I hadn't checked the Ovation Fan site for a couple days so I was lurking around and spotted the Patriot that "rhoadsscholar" had for sale. A little quick Googling and I had some idea what a Patriot model is. I've been kinda watching Ebay for something in a shallow bowl for playing comfort (fiddled around with a shallow bowl Celebrity at Guitar Center while string shopping for my Celebrity)or maybe something with a contour bowl? But come on, a guitar commemorating our countries bicentennial? How cool is that? My wife sealed the deal. I told her about it, and we looked at pictures online showing what one looks like and she said, "I think you should get that." Hmmmm, she TELLS me to buy another guitar, AND she's a redhead? Top that one fellas! I'll have to figure out how to maneuver the deep bowl around my a-little-bit-too-round 43 year old midsection, but I'll figure it out. I'm already anxious for it to arrive (and it's only been a couple hours since I pulled the trigger on Ebay.) The clock is ticking now, I've only got a few short months until Independence Day and I will have a Patriot guitar that I will have to bring out to play a few patriotic songs on. Anyone have any good suggestions for a site with tabs of The Star Spangled Banner, America The Beautiful, etc? Preferably one for the fumble fingered; I really need one now!

You learned about Ovation in December of last year and now have your second Ovation on the way? Yeah, you'll fit right in. Congratulations and welcome.

Welcome,
I'm guessing you'll enjoy the Patriot. I found it looks so much better in person than in pictures. Just something about the finish. When I had mine I had wanted to get a picture of it with my ancient drum (1812) in the picture, like a spirit of '76 photo with fife, drum and guitar??? But I never got it together before I sold it... Anyway... welcome and enjoy.

I need your wife to talk to mine about what our priorities should be. Every time I say 'new guitar' she counters with 'pay mortgage'.

Wrong tactic. You need to wait until she wants to buy something pointless (new kitchen bench to replace the perfectly good one "wrong colour", shoes, Italian handbag, expensive preening etc.) and then strike a guitar quid pro quo.

It's not that another guitar is defensible (to her), it's that her request is equally inane (to you). Most SWMBOs will see that point. Depends on how much she wants that kitchen bench.

I'm looking at buying my 4th one in a little less than 2 months. I had 4 and a guy traded his Godin to me for it. I'm gonna sell the Godin and buy a Custom Legend LX. I know they're tough to find at the right price. But, I have faith. But I digress. Good luck with your O's. I'm hooked.
