I own a 2006 Adamas W597 with an OP50 preamp with xlr. Will the OP Pro plug in to the existing receptacle?

I have a 1688 Adamas I 12-str with OP-50 and XLR; totally interchangeable with OP-Pro, Studio, VIP, and iDea pre-amp.

Thanks a lot Tony. I bought one last night and I was kind of worried that it wouldn't work. I think I'll like the Pro better.

Before you buy, see if there is someone near that will let you borrow or at least try one of the other OP's in your guitar...The OP-50 has been the standard for the textured top Adamas.

I'm half blind(from being a jeweler) and I can't see the tuner on the OP 50. I'm gonna try the Pro just for the heck of it. I can always put the OP 50 back in.

I had the same problem with the Optima. Needed the senior readers to tune the guitar.

Wow, does this strike a chord with me. I'm still playing sans glasses and can easily see the preamp controls, but only if I remove the guitar off my shoulder, place it in a stand, then take two or three steps backwards. This is one of the reasons why I bypass the preamp EQ and set all levels through floor pedals. I haven't used a built-in preamp tuner for at least 10 years. I can feel my way to the volume control and adjust levels based on what I hear, but all other preamp controls are pretty much useless for me. This also makes playing with the iDea preamp a bit problematic. Fortunately, I can still see the secret boost button.

I had the same problem with the iDea. I had trouble reading the text with my contacts in, so I'd have to use the reading glasses. If I had my bifocals on, I'd have to tilt my head back or take them off and get my face up next to the guitar.
I really like the tuner in the Fender G-dec 3. The old style Gdecs had smaller print. I could see when the needle was in the middle, but if I was far enough off to start with, I tuned it to the wrong notes a couple of times because I could read the letters.

I got the OP Pro today and put it in. I have a TA200 Trace Elliot. I sat 6 inches from it and turned it up LOUD and it did not feedback. For some strange reason I had more feedback problems with the OP-50. I couldn't believe I was that close to my amp with no airlocks and I turned it up loud enough to be heard in any rock band and it didn't feedback. I'll keep you all posted, but so far, I like this preamp. Plus, I can see it to tune!

I took the OP Pro out. It had too much midrange. I put the OP-50 back in and plugged back in my amp(same settings)and the 50 sounded a lot better. I'll keep the Pro for another guitar. Unless you want it.

Do these preamps get chosen for the particular Ovtion you have? Is there a good way to figure out what alternate preamp would work well with an elite?

I don't know. I just know when I hooked mine up with the Op-Pro it sounded different. I put the OP-50 back in. I going to order an Op Pro studio with xlr and see what happens with that. They are really easy to put in. I think I've been so used to the OP-50 that it sounds best to me. If someone wants this Op Pro let me know.

I swapped the OP-Pro in my Elite-T for a Studio. To me, the Pro had a nice warm, full sound, the Studio is brighter top end over. But its the built-in compressor and expressor that make the difference in control and sound that I appreciate the most.

I don't know if there is any particular theory at the factory. My experience is that the OpPro works in all the guitars just fine. The OpPro Studio in all the various wood topped Ovations we have was an improvement for live performance especially. In the several Adamas we have have, the VIP is superb.

The reverse was not true. The Studio really didn't add anything to the Adamas we tried. And I didn't like the VIP in the wood topped Ovations.

This is of course all personal taste, your mileage may vary.

So you think I should put a VIP in my W597 other than the Op Pro Studio? I have my store checking on a Studio now. Let me know what Adamas you tried it on.

I tried the Studio and VIP in my 2080 and in my daughter's Ute U681T.

The studio doesn't add a lot to the Adamas, probably because there is a lot there already. To me it isn't worth the $ to drop a Studio in an Adamas over the regular Op Pro. I like to use a little bit of compression for live performance, and have a good floor pedal compressor for that. The sonic enhancer in the Studio doesn't add much at all to the Adamas tone.

The VIP adds some liveliness to the plugged in sound. They say it recreates digitally various guitars mic'd with different mics. There are a couple of images which I really like and the rest don't float my boat. The VIP is a whole different idea than the other preamps in that it tries to sound like the mic'd guitar not like the regular plugged in Ovation/Adamas sound. Because the images include Adamas models, it sounds "correct" to me on a couple of the images as being my guitar.

Since the regular wood topped O's sound great plugged in, and the Studio really makes them nice in live performance, I never saw the need for the VIP features in the wood topped O's. The VIP images never convinced me that they sounded like "my" guitar.

All of this is of course subjective.

Thanks. I think I'll leave it the way it is. I really need a new guitar. I may just do that instead. I need another Ovation anyway.

Yes, you need another Ovation.
