Yes, I am bringing my Blackheart to church. I think the Preacher is just another Solid Mahogany guitar with hot Pickups, the main difference I find is in the frets - their flat.

So to answer about the Preacher.. Personally I do not like those Ovation-mini-humbuckers without a pre-amp. They seem hot for the sake of hot without the extra tone that is a result of the pre-amp and they have little sustain characteristics above the 12th fret. I found them very bity and snarly for lack of better terms.. kinda grating actually. However, they do "clean rhythm" fairly well. They sound almost like rich single coils when run clean, so if you're not into distortion, that may be the answer. My favorite Preacher, as I have said in the past, is one that I have with Viper pickups in it.

The lead guitar on the right channel was my daughter's Preacher Deluxe through a tube preamp. Or, you can hear it here on Soundclick . Another sample is HERE , a project in works with my daughter, called "This Old Guitar". It is about her Preacher. Both electric guitar tracks are her guitar, clean on the left channel and through tube distortion on the right. You'll have to wait till about 2 minutes in to hear the lead part on the right. The Preacher Deluxe sounds nice to me, with a range of tones. All kinds of switching options including single coil or humbucker, and parallel or normal. It is a heavy guitar with the solid Mahogany body. The neck has a nice slim feel with lower frets than you find on recent electrics. Very nice MOP inlays on the fretboard. How this compares to a regular Preacher (non-deluxe) I don't know.
