Location: SoCal | I was at the Friday nite jam last night and learned something interesting. I asked to play another person's D-28. When the other person played it, it sounded good, but nothing special. When I played it, it sounded spectacular. That wasn't because of me. All I was doing was strumming a few chords. It was the way the guitar projects. A lot of the sound comes back to the player.
Ovations are the opposite. Not much sound comes back to the player. Most of it is projected forward. Ovations sound better to the person 6 feet in front of them. The Martin I played sounded better to the player.
By the way, both were good guitars..... |

Location: Copenhagen Denmark | I take it that yer comparison is between a D-28 and a Multi-slot ... I have that same experience , when comparing my 1537 with the Dread. , ... but comparing the 1617 or 1618 ( both Single Slot like the Dread ) with the Dread., yields more or less even projection results .

Location: Blue Ridge Mountains | Both of my Martins sound great; the '48 D-28 sounds fabulous from in front (btw, Dave, John Pearse 13's Phos. Brnz,) but also from the players perspective...and the OM-28V (also the same strings) sounds fabulous period...it is the most awesome sounding guitar I own hands down...absolutely incredible...and sorry Brad, the '48 still isn't for sale...lol
The Adamas guitars project nicely to the player: a lot of bass w/the '78 and the #47 RI and of course the 1688 12...the projection to the front is more balanced but still strong...
Ovations differ between the round holes and the Epi models...and the 12's still project more than the 6's...
Interestingly enough, the SSB's sound muted in volume from the players perspective yet from the audience's they still have good volume...plugged in or mic'd, they hold their own surprisingly well... |
