Hi everyone,
I have a 1989 Ovation Elite (model 1868), which needs a truss rod adjustment. I'm very comfortable making these adjustments, although this is the first time I've had to adjust an Ovation guitar. I just need to know what size allen wrench is needed (I'm assuming I don't need a special tool?).

I'm grateful for your help. Thanks!

Thanks Jeff.

I see conflicting stories... 5mm vs 3/16".

3/16" would make sense, since it is a US made guitar.

Thank you!

I would go with the 3/16"...

A 5mm might work, but it probably ain't right.
As a do-it-yerself, shade-tree, use-what-you-got, mechanic I have learnt that you can use metric sockets on ASE bolts, but it ain't a perfect fit. If you round-out that hole you will be sad. :(

The one I have (in the little zip lock bag with "Ovation" printed on it) is 3/16", not 5mm.

OK, I can now confirm that it is 3/16", not 5mm. I was able to try a 5mm, and it's too big. (3/16" = 4.7625mm). I'll bet the foreign made O's are 5mm though.

And, I was able to adjust it with a 'normal' everyday allen wrench. No need for anything special. And the guitar now plays like a dream again! I am the original owner of this 20 yr old guitar, and this is the first time I ever had to touch the neck relief. It had lost some bow. I only turned the wrench slightly less than 1/4 turn, and it's fine now!

Thanks everybody for your help.

For what it's worth, my US Applause seems to use a metric one. I don't recall the size but I know I only own metric ones an done of mine fits.
