Location: Brighty in Blighty | Hi,
seem some 1763s with a OP-24+ and some with an OP-X.
Is one better than the other? Is one an 'upgrade', i.e. came in later than the other one?
Thanks! |

Location: Brighty in Blighty | In faact looking at the two in the Tribute site one has a glorius glossed neck...
and has an OP-24+
whereas the other doesn't have the glossed neck...
and has the OP-X
I must I really like the look of the glossed neck one. So it just that someone had the neck glossed and changed the preamp or did they come as different specs? Given the choice I prefer the glossed one. |

Location: SoCal | All Ovations had glossed necks until the mid to late 80's. At that time, while headstocks were still glossed, the necks had a more satin finish. Then in the 90's, Ovation went to a non glossed finish (I didn't care for it).
The OP24 was the only preamp offered (there were lesser preamps for imported guitars) during the 80's from about 1984 to the end of the 80's. The OP24+ and the OP-X both came out in the 1990's.
Of the two guitars, the non glossed neck 1763 probably has the original preamp. The glossed neck 1763 has either had the preamp upgraded or the neck glossed. More likely the preamp was changed..... |

Location: Brighty in Blighty | I've waited for a 1763 for some time and think I'll hold out longer for an older glossed neck one, I too don't like the non glossed neck.
I trust the later ones aren't weren't a better build etc? |
