What gauge typically comes standard on the Adamas line of guitars...ie., 1687, 47RI, '08 collectors, 2080, etc., etc....

I would think 12's. At least that's what I've seen.

For 1687 owners, any opinions on your favorite strings for this guitar? I'm pretty partial to D'Addario EJ16's on most guitars that I own, but do you think there is something special offered by the Adamas strings? Or do you prefer some other brand or spec?

I think I read that the Adamas 1818s are made by D'Addario and are the same as the EJ16s--12-52 as Beal said.

sopposedly the adamas 1818 are equal core and wrap where as the EJ16 are a bigger core wire. I use the two interchangably

Directly from the Adamas website:

What kinds of strings are used on Adamas Guitars?

We use D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze strings on our guitars. Another string we like is the Adamas 1818 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze. You can use whatever string suits your playing style. Heavier or lighter strings might require a truss rod adjustment.

For nylon string guitars we like the Adamas 4444 or the Savarez Alliance high tension.

Thanks guys!
I was just curious since the Adamas size wise are similar to a Dread which typically uses mediums.

One advantage of the 1818s is that they often become available on the Bay very reasonably priced by the dozen. I picked up 4 dozen a few years ago for less than $100, which works out to about $2 per set. I was a little concerned that there might be shelf-life issues, but each pack is sealed in plastic, so there shouldn't be any moisture infiltrating the packaging. This purchase has served as my base stock of strings which is supplemented from time to time with complimentary sets received from various sources. I probably don't pay as much attention to strings as I should.

My mistake: I just located the email from JB and he plainly said in response to my question "What strings does the factory use on the 1687's": D'Addario EXP16 (.012-.053) Phosphor Bronze ; and that's what I bought on my last string order: four sets of those; three sets of EJ16-3D; and two sets of EXP38-light 12 for the 12 strings...not sure what planet I was on when I answered before...it's been a long week...
