Never done it... But I think you are supposed to tie a knot kinda backwards over the tuning log...

We are talking about nylon, right?

Does this refresher course help? Or just make you angrier?

Damon, if you just do what Al does, (leave the strings on till they turn to base materials) you don't have to worry about it very much.
