To ALL of my OFC 'family', foreign and domestic, friends and foes and those that made this all possible, today I'm celebrating the birth of my nation!

My Mom and I arrived in New York harbor on Columbus Day, 1950. We were processed through Ellis Island the day after. My Mom, rest her soul, always loved to relate the story of seeing the "Lady of Freedom", the Statue of Liberty, for the first time. To her, it was a religious experience!

So, I truly wish everyone a free and self-determined future. It's what our wise founding fathers and those afterwards that fought, and in all too many cases, sacrificed their lives for. May we have the strength to keep our Republic.

Enjoy your 4th of July, but please take a moment to listen to the 'taps' echoing through the hills and dales our history!

Bless ya'll...

Oh, BTW, if ya consider this post political, FO!

Noper, but I'd be very proud if I was! It is rumored that I'm one 64th Semi-hole...

Hey, I've had more fun with the Dutch than I deserved. Sorry, I never got to Scandinavia...

Those thoughts are never far from my mind.

My family's military history goes back to the Crimean War and my grandfather was one of The Old Contemptibles (BEF) in 1914 - survived the trenches and decorated for valour. WW II pretty much finished the rest of us off and I'm the last of that line not that it matters much in the scheme of things.

My wife's father came in through Ellis Island carrying everything that he owned - started with nothing and worked hard into his 80s.

So whether it's the United States or Canada - North America is the promised land.

Happy birthday to you all in the USA.

I am the 13 generation descended from Gen. Artimus Ward who was in command of the American Army prior to George Washington. My Dad was a Marine who fought on Okinawa during WWII and also in Korea...My brother and I were both Marine Air Traffic Controllers in Vietnam: we both survived physically unscathed but mentally affected for years afterward...Yet I have always been proud to have been able to serve my Country voluntarily, and to be a part of the heritage of helping to keep us and others free...neither of us talk about our experiences much...neither did my dad...'nuff said about that...we are blessed my friends and we must not take that for granted!
Happy 4th!

My Son just called me yesterday to tell me he's traveling up to Ohio, to say his goodbyes to his mother, then back down here for his goodbyes to me... He is following in his sister's footsteps and has joined the Air Force. both smarter than me, I joined the army and drove bulldozers primary and was combat demolitions secondary even though I was offered OCS and DLAB and declined... He ships out for basic training at the end of the month... nice surprise, and the military will do him good.. he maxed his ASVAB/MOS scores and has a real diploma with a high B average, so they're pretty much giving him his choice as to job training/assignment.. looking forward to going up for his graduation from BT..

Have a safe Holiday all!

Glenn

Lets just hope and pray our country remains free to honor all the men and women that fought to make it that way. Thanks to all who have served.

Happy Birthday USA

I was fortunate to be in the US for 4 July last year

There is one thing I certainly admire about you Americans and that is your patriotism.

Have a great celebration my friends

A happy, safe, and thoughtful 4th to all of my friends here at the OFC. Oh, by the way, while I was waiting for the parade to start a gentleman came in to the shop. I usually ask what kind of guitars people have and the first thing he mentioned was an old Custom Legend. He also has an Ovation acoustic bass. I told him about our group of friends here, so I expect when his vacation is over he'll be checking in with us.

My great, great-grandfather was an immigrant from England, who fought for the North in the Civil War and is buried in Arlington National Cemetary; my grandfather was in the naval reserves, my dad was a Marine, my father-in-law in the 8th Air Force in England during WW II, my husband the Army. Our son planned on going into the Marine Corps right out of high school, but a physical issue prevented that.
Lots of men in uniform in our family; they proudly served when called to do so.
My gratitude to all of you and yours who have served our country in this way in order that I might be free.

My Great Grand Parents came here around 1900 from Poland (Russia at the time).
Its a gift to our family of thats been priceless.
I remember my Great Grand Mother mailing Polish Ham to Poland because they could get one there.

We had family members serve in every War since.
Including a West Pointer.

Happy Birthday America.

We go back to the Mayflower, but originated in some part of northern Europe. I'm a big (6'4", 290 or so), (ex-) blonde Norwegian lookin' guy. And my daughter is a gorgeous 15-year old version of that. My son, so the doctor says, will soon be staring down to see my formerly blonde hair.

To say we're from some part of the North of Europe is to state the obvious! But, we always delight in saying that we're "Native Americans." Hey: "native" just means (in the broadest sense) where you were born. No disrespect is meant to those whose ancestors were here well before mine, but we ARE, after all, Native Americans.

I did the math once. Of the roughly 100 billion or so people who have ever lived on the earth, if you are reading this as an American, you beat something like 1,300 to 1 odds.

Talk about winning the lottery! To be a citizen of this, the greatest country in history? And to have beaten such odds to be there? Wow!

Lots and lots and lots of "blood, toil, tears and sweat" went into making America the greatest country that ever was. May she ever remain so!

Best to you all!

Let me guess Lucy, you're an American?

Sure this post is political, but it's tolerated because it's not mean spirited. I assume simililar posts celebrating national holidays of other countries would be just as welcome, otherwise FO.

You are welcome, Lucy!

I'm assuming your statement implies you live somewhere other than the US and for some reason are offended by the exuberant patriotism some of us display. It's really not such an unusual thing, you'll find it in many countries.
Don't mind us, most of us just feel lucky to live here.

What's your question?

Well said, Wabbit! Lucy: this post is unique because of the holiday. You'll find that the members here will be very happy to answer your guitar question as well.

Well lucy, there can be no welcome until you're here. But now that you are, welcome! Nice entry BTW...

Go ahead and ask a guitar question... No seriously, ask! In fact it doesn't even matter if it's not about an Ovation. That's how generous and understanding 'we' are.

I have a sneaking suspicision that you're enjoying the 'fruits' of the reasons and cause for the 4th of July. So, if you're not in the USofA, do you live in a country that we... Oh, nevermind...

And your guitar question is...?
