Joined: June 2006 Posts: 23 Location: Sydney | G'day all, Been a long time Ovation owner and have a Breadwinner ( Bought in 1988 ) - a Deacon, which I got in 92 and also I found a Magnum II a few years ago now. The Magnum II sadly came with the corner of the pickguard near the output jack cracked off and missing. This seems to be a common thing since my Deacon guard is cracked in the same place but intact ... due to people stepping on the cable with a straight jack! Any case ... the Magnum guard is missing the Treble and Hz caps and I would like to either buy a replacement II type pickguard or a complete Magnum I guard with electronics complete and change it out. Can anybody give me any leads as to where I could source these bits from? I would dearly love to restore the bass to best condition. My e-mail = psi_fan@yahoo.com Thanks very much, Tiki.

P.S How difficult is it to secure Magnum electronics with the guard intact as a complete unit, do you know? Cheers, Tiki.

Heck, finding the electronics or the pickguard separate is going to be tough. You're likely going to have to have one cut. Of course finding the correct (or at least correct thickness) pickguard material will take a bit of perseverance as well. I'll check around. -mkb

Joined: June 2006 Posts: 23 Location: Sydney | Mr Ovation, I'm open to swapping in the guard and electronics for the Magnum I also - that may be an option if easier? The electronics are fine on my Magnum II but somebody decided to wire in some type of passive toggle switch that dangles in the hole where the pickguard is missing in the corner of the output. What somebody has done is just screw an output plate over the missing part of the pickguard - to bridge the gap where it is missing and added a silly passive/active toggle switch. Essentially I think the active electrics are a bit scratchy and need some work - but they are intact. MWoody, Thanks mate ... I don't have a digital camera right now to take a shot but I'll get onto it this week. It is a crescent moon shaped missing chunk from the bottom corner of the guard where the output jack sits. All the writing on the guard is intact however and in good shape. I was thinking it might be easy to just cut the rough edge in a clean line and add the missing part as a new piece, that way I'd still have all the original text on the guard. Open to suggestions? Best, Tiki.

The electronics of the II are nice, but in reality.. the I with just volume and tone works just fine and you don't have to worry about batteries. I'll see what I have. I may have a magnum I pickguard.
