Steve's right on about NAV. You have problems and need to uninstall it, you better have some serious registry tools handy.

Plus it's a memory hog and just plain sucks as an AV. I could have the corporate NAV free via my work for my home machine, but I run Avast at home because it catches many more threats.

When I got my latest computer, I bought NOD 32 for anti virus, spyware, etc. Seems to be working pretty good and it was recommended by several sources. Didn't cost a whole lot either....

F-Secure Anti-Virus 2009 or F-Prot . Either of these have been around since the late 90's used more by professionals for server and enterprise in the early years, and neither of them OEM so they are not as big a target. In fact early on, F-Secure used FRISK's F-Prot anti-virus search engine for their anti-virus product. The free DOS version of F-Prot was the staple of every network and PC engineers emergency toolkit to save PC's from things that got past Norton, Macafee and Microsoft.

I have used both over the years, currently using F-Secure.

I've been using AVG Free, Spybot, CCleaner and Peer Guardian for quite a few years with no problems.

Thanks for the help everyone.
It was my system. I think I got it licked now.

Isn't it funny how when something like this happens the first thought is that it just can't be MY problem? It's just got to be the other guy.

Brad, I think what you're experiencing is the brand new IE browser's add-ons.

It's in a recent Windows update. It's also annoying.
