And, surprise, it's not damaged. The people really packed it well. It's in very nice condition and it is a 1975 model by the serial number. Nicely aged top with no scratches dings or dents. Have to give it a good detailing, restringing and adjusting tonight, which I am still in the middle of, but here's a pic of it as of now. The tr cover is off for adjustment purposes.

I'll get a report up tomorrow sometime after I get to play it for a while.

Lookin' good.

Besides sunburst I love the look of an aged natural finish.

Johnny, I'll bring this one down to the Keys for you to play around with when we see you in a couple of weeks.

That's mighty sweet TJ. And to think I had a chance at one of those when money was too tight. Well, I guess all I have to do is wait, you'll enjoy it for a while and then pass it on to one of us no doubt. I hope I'm in the position to buy it when the time comes.

Nice guitar, Jim. Congratulations.

Johnny, if you can't take that one to the Keys, you should send it to me for safe keeping while you're gone.

I'll definitely take a raincheck Johnny. I need to meet some of you Florida boys and I definitely need a vacation. Going to Cabo with the in-laws wasn't exactly relaxing. I'm not a beer drinker but I'm sure I can find some good bourbon to sip on.

Got to play it for a little while last night and today, and I am happy to say it sounds just like my old 1614. Louder than I remembered, but nice tone and balance. Great old preamp that sounds natural plugged in too. My old one had the stacked tone and volume, where as this one has the volume only amp. Man, I must have spent 2 hours on setting it up though. I don't think anyone ever even attempted to make it right.

It's fun trying to get the high strings to stay on those fat posts, isn't it? I think they went to the skinnier posts in 78. Mine's a 77. One of my favorite Ovations, but I have too many favorites.

Ya know Mark, I was thinking the same thing. I cut the strings a little short and had to replace them again cause I couldn't get them to lock on. Lesson learned.

My learning curve on the classical tuners was quite steep. I now just trim the metal strings back to the wrap and pay close attention to the ends (scratch prevention).

But if ya want a challenge, put on some D'Ads Pro Arte composites. That G string is slicker than owl droppings on a wet limb! NEVER precut that one... It's a case of too many wraps are better than a bunch, even with a lock wrap!
