I recently bought a Fender Strats - American Standard new and notice that the "G" string sound dull, the rest of the strings sounds wonderfully clear with plenty of sustain.
I have decided to do a setup and replace all strings with Elixir nanoweb super light. still the problem exists.
What could be wrong here, the G string just doesn't ring clear.
Any thoughts out there?"

Further to my last question in regards to the Fender Am. Std Strats - "G" strings sounds dull and it doesn't ring clear.
I checked the bridge set screws (as BruDeV suggested to check) last night and they sit snugly on the bridge plate. I also followed Trader Jim's suggestion to check the angle of the nut slot and it seems alright. However, the problem still exists.
Any other suggestion please?

Location: Brisbane Australia | On reading your other post, if it sounds clear when fretted at the first fret and dull when open it has to be the nut.
It sounds like the nut slot may be just fractionally low and it's buzzing out on that first fret.
Because it's the first fret it won't be obvious as a buzz.
If you fret the string between the second and third fret you should have just a whisker of clearance at the first.

Thank you for taking the time in answering my question. I think you're absolutely right. Now should I fill in the slot and re-cut it to correct the problem? Or is there a better way to correct this?
This is a beautiful guitar especially after I installed the Kinman pick up and it just sounds so sweet when playing the old Shadows music.

I'll try to contact the store for warranty issue. I don't know if they would honor it especially when I replace the stock pick up with my own.

I'll bet it does. What amp are you playing through?
There are a ton of great shops down there that can handle the nut issue (and setup as well). California Vintage Guitar on Van Nuys Blvd in Sherman Oaks should be pretty close by to you and can get the job done well. And they have some very cool stuff to look at while you're there. :cool: |

Thank you for the input. I'm currently using my Fishman Loudbox acoustic amp for the clean sound as I don't play any heavy stuff and this amp serves me well.
I'm going to pick me one of the Mesa Boogie Express 5:50 amp next month to bring back the Tube amp sound that I'm used to back in the 60's.
