I own an Adamas deep bowl, no cutaway, model 1681, which I think is a great guitar.

I've read so much about the U681, however, being regarded as perhaps the best Adamas ever made, that I would like to ask the members of the OFC precisely what the differences are between these two instruments in terms of sound quality, when played both acoustically versus plugged-in.

I've also read that the U681 does not have the suspension ring that the 1681 and other highly regarded Adamases employ. If this suspension ring is one of the critical elements that gives the "better" Adamases their superb resonance and projection, why would the U681 be regarded in many circles as the superior instrument, given the fact that its top is glued directly to the bowl and therefore is not as free to resonate?

Also, how much difference does the 12 fret to the body neck actually make, compared to the more typical 14 fret to the body neck?

Finally, what do people think of the 6080 relative to the 1681 and the U681?

From what I've read, the 6080 appears to be very similiar in specs to the U681, apart from the preamp and the LX bracing instead of the quintad.

Thanks.

First I'll state my qualifications.
I own a U681T.
My guitar partner has a 1680 which I think is the same as yours but with a cut-a-way.
I've played an '08 Collector (14 fret) enough to have a good feeling for it.

IMHO...I'd take my U681 (UTE) over the other two without a thought. I'm sure the suspension ring has some type of value but it's the 12 fret vs the 14 fret neck that makes the meaningful difference. When the bridge is placed low on that Adamas textured top, good things happen.
It's easy to always say that MY guitar is the BEST guitar but I am trying hard to be objective for you.
Your milage may vary.

Uh guys, I think the 1680 has a 12 fret neck. My 1681 is a great guitar, and my preference of the ones I have played. The 1680 is probably heralded as the best of the bunch, and I really liked mine, although I liked War Eagle's better. I thought his was the best Adamas I have ever played or heard. Never heard of the 6080 though.

Owned both a 1681 and a 1680. Sold the 1681. Nuff said.

What's a 6080?

i think albert meant 1680 when he typed 6080. all the numbers can get confusing at times.

Ooooops...

Sorry. Anywhere I mentioned '6080', I was really referring to '1680'.

One other thing... I'm a finger picker / classical guitar player, who doesn't use a pick all that often.

My quest is to find the best sounding Adamas when fingerpicked. Although I do love the sound of an Adamas when played with a pick, which is bell like and magical, the style of music that I play is just not conducive to using a pick.

The 1681 that I have certainly sounds "very good' when played with just my finger tips (I really don't have any nails to speak of), but I much prefer the clarity and bell like harmonics that my Adamas generates with a plectrum.

Are there any major differences between the Adamas models in terms of how they sound when played with just one's fingers?

I have noticed that on my 1681, notes on the high 'E' string played with just my fingers sound a tad muffled and less clear compared to the other strings. When played with a plectrum, however, the high 'E' string is bell like and crystal clear.

So, in the neighborhood of $3K, for "the best Adamas"?
Sounds like my piggybank will need serious fattening efforts!
Betcha, selling all my collection, together, is about half-way there........hate it when that happens.

I am offering my like new 1680 to any interested parties for $1575 delivered CONUS.

I would also consider a trade deal for a used Adamas 2080 + cash for this 1680.

E-mail for details. I need to take pics before I can do an official post but consider this a pre-sale preview...
