| To me, busking is begging in that the buskers solicit payment for a service not requested. But at least they don't spit on your windshield first. |

Location: Campbell River, British Columbia | I've seen some darned good buskers who make a pretty fine annual living out of it. I prefer the juggling comedians to musicians, but many well thought out acts are well worth your time and money.
They're the sort of thing you'd have seen in a vaudeville show back-in-the-day.
I did some busking in Europe in the 70's. Made enough to take 14 of us to a Rock concert in the south of France one day...so I was passable back then. But I must admit, to a large extent I'm tired of 'Just Another Guy & A Guitar' ...it's gotta be >different< to entertain.
friends and gatherings of same exempt. that's another thing completely. |

We do have some sidewalk cafe players, which is a different story. A friend was listening to a couple of guitar players and singers at a restaurant and they walked around the corner. He wondered whether there were more tables over there, so he asked someone who had just come back from that direction. The whole time he could hear the 2 guys over the PA. The guy said he was in the john and one of the guys walked up to the urinal next to him and started peeing, but still singing into his headset the whole time. Then the other singer/guitarist came up to the other urinal and did the same thing. I didn't ask if they still tried to play their guitars.
I'd pay to see talent like that. |
