Cool Story:
Summertime, poking through a Flea Market/Rummage sale in downeast Maine, I came across a model airplane. A Constellation that had seen better days, missing the entrie tail section and one engine. The cool part was that the left side of the fuselage was clear, and one could see all the seats and galleys, etc. A fair portion of the seats had come unglued. It looked to be model that would be on some tourist agency desk.

I thought that fixing up the model would be a fun sit-in-front-of-the-TV project, and the price was right - Ten Whole Dollars. I thought it would look great hanging on a string from the ceiling.

Over last winter I researched plans and constructed the new tri-tail out of mahogany and spruce, reglued the interior, and started researching the paint.

At this point it looked like this:

During the search I found out the model was 55 years old and was worth a tad more than I expected.

Long story short: I sold it to a member of a European government who is having the model professionally restored by that country's museum staff as the centerpiece of his collection.

And that's how I paid for my Ovation 09C. :D

Fifteen years ago there was a Connie on the field in Santa Fe, NM. Some enthusiast was going to renovate it. After doing research on the history of it, it turned out to be the aircraft used by President Eisenhower, yup a real Air Force 1 aircraft!

It was pretty rough when I saw it there, and I have no idea if it is still there. The Connie is one of the most beautiful airframes ever designed.
