Joined: September 2009 Posts: 180 Location: michigan | I believe Al is referring to the 2008 Adamas collectors guitar (slotted headstock with modern features). I had a good conversation going through the KOA and the Adamas guitars. As some have said, narrow it down to two and get both. I also understand the features Al put into the OFC 2080 (all nice touches), but it is a little more than I want to spend. Man, I really appreciate ALL the comments on this board. It is kinda fun to hear what/why others prefer certain models. Now seems the time to buy as there is some uncertainty what Fender will do and the prices are really great. I am seriously of thinking of selling more stuff to be able to get both. I might be able to get the KOA or one of the ADAMAS export only models Al sells (partial to the non-cutaway with electronics). Quite a different beast than the 2080, but there is a part of me that likes the original Adamas look. From looking at BVINCE's handle and his recent aquisition of a 2009 collector, He seems like one who has/can compare the two. I think BVINCE read my mind when he posted this. As a recent purchaser (this week from Al)of the '09 Collectors and owner of a couple of Adamas textured tops, I can say that is a difficult decision. BUT ... I'd opt with the 09 Collectors. My Adamas guitars sound louder to me (or the player) because of the hole configuration, which also holds true to the Elites, but if you're standing in front of one, the round holes seem to project just as well. After playing the 09 however, I've found it have an incredible tonal quality and range, the setup is perfect, the appearance is fantastic. It has the Op Pro Studio and contour bowl. The final deciding factor for me was the limited run on them and the major price drop. I believe I can always pickup another Adamas (which I really do like also)but I have an idea people who get these 09s in their hands will be hanging on to them for a long time. If you already have a lot of round holes, you could always get the 09 and compare it with the others, then down the road you could part with one of those to finance an Adamas purchase. Also ... If you already made the decision once to push the button on an 09, you KNOW YOU WANT ONE. (: If you go for another 09, go through Al and you won't have the same problem (opinion number 7) -------------------- Vince 1587 Blk Adamas I Cutwy 1581-8 Blu Adamas II Cutwy 1768C Nat.Cedar Elite Cutwy 2007 Bearclaw Spruce Collctrs 2009 KOA Collectors 1619-1 Cust Legend Sunburst

The woodtops will always be around (IMHO) partly because of their much lower price point. New Adamas (and consequently NOS/Used) will be much harder to come by in the future based on whatever Fender may decide to do.

Our next gig is the night before Thanksgiving (nobody should be working the next day)... We are just getting going on Version 3.0 of the band. Mostly 70's and 80's rock... Sounds like it could be fun. I should have a new toy by then... Still pondering what else to sell on ebay to get both. I am beginning to think that what boards like the ovation fan club are for. To encourage GAS and stimulate the economy ...

Buy a 2009 before they are all gone. Play the 2009 and decide which of my present ovations I might want to get rid of to fund an Adamas purchase. I took the plunge, and own #115 out of #150 of the 2009 ovation collector guitar. I had pm'd a dealer on ebay who had one and got their last one. I shared my ebay story from a different dealer and they gave me a good price. I have always wanted a custom legend and this is the first time I ever tried out the Contour bowl. I love it. I had a couple of conversations with Al and need to decide which Adamas model to get before they are all snapped up. I still like to 2080 and the OFC model Al spoke about. I will be moving some equipment and looking up Al soon once I make up my mind. Thanks everyone for participating in this thread. I guess I needed both the 2009 and the Adamas. Since bvince has both and recently posted the 2009, I will be playing the 2009 this weekend and figuring out what to sell to fund the Adamas. One down, one to go.
