Just played a few chords and I must say I'd rather play a 30-year-old Ovation. Now maybe when it's 30 years old it will be a different stoty but I wouldn't want to wait till then to justify spending 3 grand.

By the way, there's no question of me spending 3 grand on a guitar in the next 30 years in any case!!! You just don't see Gibson acoustics in the shops around here too often so I couldn't resist.

Some of those can be real good and others are not.

If you're going to spend 3 grand on a J45 go spend it on a Collings CJ. Much better exicution of the same ideas.

Current Gibsons can (not necessarily are) be really good guitars. I've got a buddy who has 3 (J-200, J-45 and some other slope shoulder) and all are really great guitars (and I don't like J200's). But Beal's Collings SJ is flat out wonderful (Beal, did I ever tell you I have a birthday coming up?)...

Ahh, yes. That is a sweet one. But I like the rosie back ones better - bit more bass punch. I have my sights on a German/Rosie short scale right now...

The Gibson I have (songwriter deluxe) really surprised me when I got it. It's still here if that's any indication of what I think of it.

Every now and then Gibson makes a good one.
The CJ is the 45 design
Moody is talking about the SJ, more the 185/200 design.
Both are great but quite different.
G8r is looking at a CJ and they are great with a short scale, 24 1/2"
The SJ really needs the 25 1/4.
I've been in a SJ mood lately, got 4 and they are all quite different, maple, mahogony, koa and indian rosewood cutaway.

Just thought I'd try it as it's one of those 'legendary' guitars.
The guy is the shop must love people like me - I was only looking for a harmonica case!

I`ve had two J45s in the last year. Both were very goog guitars. There are a lot of J45 models but you can get the modern classic for $1999.00 any day at guitar center and they just ran them on sale for $1599.00.

I've had a couple of CJs through the years. One was a really hot-rodded '52 model. I raced it off-road all over the California and Arizona deserts. Did pretty well in the amateur classes with it, too.
