Joined: August 2003 Posts: 4619 Location: SoCal | Anyone who has gone to a Matt's Chop Shop has seen him take one of the guitar store's guitars, add a higher guage low E string and put an adapter over the nut...then amazing slide (dobro style). Doesn't harm the guitar at all. StewMac | ||

Bigger string, believe it is a .76 or a .78 As for my use, just putting on mediums will give me the ability to sound like a lousy beginning violin player annoying the neighbors. You don't need the nut to be raised as much as this for regular bottleneck-style upright slide. A couple of mm at the most will do, some slide players don't even bother raising at the nut. | ||

Joined: July 2005 Posts: 3410 Location: GA USA | When I first started trying to learn, I just put resophonic strings on an old acoustic. That raised the action enough at the saddle, and I could play Spanish style. Since it was tuned slack, open G or D, the heavy strings were not a problem. | ||
