I don't understand what you're getting at but just look at the pictures in the link might help you a bit..lol

It's actually some good portraiture - most photographers are useless and too full of themselves to see the light of day but this guy really gets it.

Not only is it a good example of Rembrandt lighting but it absolutely captures Ralph Stanley and, I think, how he'd like to be seen:

Yeah, sorry if I was a bit sharp there.

White Stetsons are a pretty standard rig particularly in Western Canada; have been since the 1800s..lol

Wow, Joe, thanks for posting these! Bill Monroe and Ralph Stanley are SO cool! I am a photographer (but really, I'm not full of myself). I 'shoot' mostly in natural lighting and portraiture is my favorite thing to do. This stuff here is the best of the best ... that's why they are doing Nashville portraits! Is it just me or did Doc Watson (who I also LOVE) have HUGE hands? The photo of Townes Van Zandt made me sad. I saw him in some 'cave' in NYC before he died. A tragic figure indeed. Look how chubby Dolly Parton looked! I LOVE her and was just listening to her "The Grass is Blue" CD, which I think is one of her best.

;)

Great pics! As I was looking at them I realized that I have been lucky enough to have seen 17 of these artists in concert. Most were at the Berkshire Mnt. Bluegrass festival, or Winterhawk as it later became known. But I saw Carol King in Los Angeles, Jerry Jeff at Lenox Music Inn in the Berkshires on the SAME SHOW as Vassar, whom I also saw with, yes, Old And In The Way in Vermont in 1976. Actually, most of the ones I've seen, I've seen more than once. I just love being alive!

Wow, great photography, and quite a fascinating bit of musical history just perusing the site. I've seen quite a few of those folks perform live, but I think Alison has me beat with 17.
