Location: SoCal | Wax it, but also know that if you play the guitar a lot, the oils from your hand will smooth it out a bit..... |

Location: Tennessee | I have a rag I use for oiling my fretboards and bridges that is always sort of damply soaked with oil ... I wipe the natural necks down with it. Works perfect. I've never waxed the necks (which I admit is the instruction for the factory), but I figure the necks were always billed as oil-rubbed anyway. My method provides more even coverage than the popcorn method, too. ;)
BTW, the oil I use is called Fret Doctor and it is the same stuff used to keep fifes in tiptop shape. Great product. I've used it for years and am 100% sold on it. PM me if you want the web address where to order.
Paul, the neck on my CL12 has been maintained that way for about 10 years now ... |

I really like the book sound. Looks like the action is stock factory so I'll take out a shim. The neck is straight with no twisting or humping .
I'll try to do a more in depth comparison review - maybe with sound clips.
1978 - 1617 Legend
1978 - GC Artist
1990 - 1768
1996 - book
I like the book the best. Most balanced of the bunch. 1768 is deeper bass but not as balanced. Book is "sweeter" sounding. Legend has nicest neck - gloss, profile. Artist bowl is most comfortable.

3 guitars each playing snippets one after the other.
1 mic - Audix CX111 12" from 12th fret at 45 degree angle towards body.
No EQ, flat mic, no compression or effects.
1768 (1990) - 1617 (1978) - book elite

AJ Yeah... a travesty.
Sorry, while I think gloss necks look great, on this guitar it seems like it's destroying history.
Besides, I'm from the camp that would like to find an easy way to REMOVE finish from necks. I think the natural necks are much smoother and much easier to maintain.
