Thanks to everyone for your friendly welcome and feedback on my previous posting. Sorry, I don’t have pictures. The crack, although stable, is fairly bad and extends laterally inward from the bridge. KMC recommends a new top, bowl and bridge. I don't have the original receipt, and apparently did not send in the registration card. The work will cost $550. I have decided to stay with the sunburst, but with a cutaway deep bowl and an inlayed rosette. The guitar has the old style stereo pickup with the concentric volume/tone control. For an additional $150 I can get a new mono pickup and controls (treble/mid/bass). I never use the electric, but thought this might be a good idea to do. Also, I think I may go with a black bowl rather than brown. Any comments/suggestions would be appreciated. I have a couple days to nail down these details.

Cheers,

Say, leapin, you're pretty much going to have a new guitar at the end of this process which will be far from stock, so you might as well have it custom built out with everything you've been dreaming about.

brown bowl to remember its heritage...

course, a respected but often abused senior member of the OFC might recommend making it an acoustic, especially (IMHO) you lose a little by having it as a cutaway.

Looking back now at my overhaul, I wish I would have thought about the inlaid rosette and cutaway options also. With the cutaway I would have chosen the contour bowl also though. Good luck.

Sorry to hear the damage is so extensive. BB is right. You might as well do it up the way you really want it for a few more bucks.

Let us know how it turns out--send pics, too!!

Electronics will make it easier to resell, but if you plan on keeping it and play acoustically then by all means do it right - bone nut, bone saddle, acoustic only.

Quick, name another acoustic only cutaway model ???

My rebuilt Legend is acoustic only, bone saddle and nut. Every once in a while I think it would be nice to have electronics so that I could play it everywhere, but somehow, with a GC Reissue and an 87C, I feel pretty well covered.

If you don't plug in, make it acoustic only. You won't be disappointed. In this case, at least, Toby's right.....
