Miles recently closed a topic and gave Gallerinski a vacation. His post is quoted below:

Which part of NO POLITICS on this forum is not clear.

"I'm sure this thread will be shut down because it has nothing to do with guitars "

Have a nice vacation moron...

Signed.. a proud vet.

I was recently called a name by another member. Being a veteran of forums, I could easily have handled him, but as this is a moderated forum I did the right thing and reported the post. He was warned by Al, specifically for the name calling.

If an action is wrong, it is always wrong. I call upon Al to warn Miles.

No, Jim it has to do with the following words:

Be kind to one another.

No personal attacks.

No politics.

No religion.

These are Al's words. I'm just trying to ascertain to whom they apply.

Losov,

I understand what you mean. But I don't think it's the right way to start a "public" discussion in that way. Maybe a PM to Miles would lead to a friendlier and more effective solution. Nobody is perfect and every decision can be thought over. It's just a matter of the way you talk about it.

It applies to everyone, but what did Miles do?

Miles called Gallerinski a moron in public, not in a PM, and there was nothing friendly about it. He chose the venue, that's where it needs to be dealt with.

If he can do it to Gallerinski, he can do it to you.

The other thread was closed cuz it drifted way over into Politics.
This thread will be closed also, as soon as Miles or Al feel inclined to do so.
The original thread had drifted across the line...
This thread Started over the line, and it is intentionally inflammatory.

To Quote TJ... "...and this has to do with guitars?"

Agreed

"This thread will be closed also, as soon as Miles or Al feel inclined to do so."

Probably

"The original thread had drifted across the line..."

OK . . .

"This thread Started over the line, and it is intentionally inflammatory."

Nope. The inflammation started when Miles called Gallerinski a name. Is that OK with you, OMA? It isn't with me, and I'm simply requesting clarification. Do the administrators, in their view, have the right to abuse us on this forum?

Oh... The word "moron".

The milder definition of moron is: "A stupid person; a dolt."

In Psychology: "A person of mild mental retardation having a mental age of from 7 to 12 years and generally having communication and social skills enabling some degree of academic or vocational education. The term belongs to a classification system no longer in use and is now considered offensive."

Miles and Al set a metric to follow. Be kind to one another, stick to guitars (at least try), stay away from religion & politics, and starting a thread with, "I know I shouldn't be doing this..." , is the easiest way to get a vacation.

Miles is not a Psychologist and surely was not classifying Gallerinski's mental capacity, so I have to assume that he just meant to say "stupid".

Wouldn't you agree that it is stupid to ignore simple guidelines and purposely try to piss-off Miles or Al?

Losov... let this one go.

Ah? But do Miles and Al Lose their Right to Free Speech because they started a Forum to facilitate the discussion of Ovation Guitars and now have the responsibility to Moderate that forum?
You imply that Miles cannot refer to another member as a 'moron' only because he is an Administrator.
Whereas a Normal Member is entitled to type any silly thing that happens to pop into their mind? :p

I still believe a PM would be a "finer" way to clear things up. I totally accept your approach and I do understand you, but I think this will lead to nothing but more fighting.

Gallerinski violated one of the guidelines, Miles violated two. Nothing to let go. They'll respond or they won't. Either way, it's an answer.

Losov is absolutely correct.
It was a tribute that came from 3 continents by my reckoning and only the man who has to be more patriotic than everybody else introduced the political edge.

Miles' rudeness was ridiculous and unwarranted. Give him a vacation al.

Losov, Miles and Dave have known each other a while. Miles calling him a moron isn't the same as if he'd done it to you or me. I don't think it means he will start abusing all of us because he dealt his friend a minor insult.

Nowhere did I say or imply that.

What I said and what I restate is that the rules that Al outlined in "Rules Redux" should apply to all. If they don't, I want to know about it.

Yes I am here.

I went to actually play a solo gig last night and did not check boards or e mail till this morning. all I wanted was a reasonable night's sleep.

sue has been sick with the flu for over a week now and this is the second bout with it. I have been desperately trying not to get it.

so I wake up to this.

first
an innocent post about veterans days turns into a thread with political agendas. all involved should be given a vacation IMHO. and I told Miles so.

second I do not agree with calling someone a "moron" concerning their views BUT Dave is a button pusher and by using words to the effect of "and I know this post will shut down this thread" just shows the intent.

third I can't give miles a vacation he is one of the co owners of this message board. I submit that if you disagree with his decision send him e mails about it. His e mail is available if you don't have it I will send it to you.

fourth This is why I say NO POLITICS because a simple positive thing can be twisted.

fifth I was never in the military but I respect those who were.

lastly can I go back to sleep? I am tired

See.
Push the button, get a treat.
Unless you push the wrong button... again!

I don't get too politically involved outside of voting - which reserves my right to complain.
All Al and Miles ask is that we self-moderate as much as possible.

And yes, sometimes I like to get a tingle just to know if the electric fence really is turned on.

Keep in mind that your spouses and grandchildren will be reading these posts!

Wow. A whole thread discussing a whole thread that was shut down. Interesting.

Al, go get some sleep then post some pics from last night on FB.

Moron's not bad. I've called family members worse. But it's a good example that when you type something, it can come out a lot different than it was intended (maybe in this case it didn't?). Like in baseball when a bloop single over second base looks like a line drive the next day in the box scores.

Am I going to get a vacation because this post has nothing to do with guitars? Oh well, I'll still post it 'cause I'm feeling gutsy this morning....

Yes.. Al spanked me.

Yes.. this thread is closed.
