Location: Canada | Im enjoying reading up on these ovations. Seems like some good folks here too. Although, the more I read, the more guitars I want to buy, and I really should stay out of the for sale section for fear that my woman may....hurt me.
I've been wondering two things
1. As a guy that stopped playing for a few years, I've lost touch with what's hot and not. I am wondering on what would be a good amp for my 2078. It would be nice if this amp could also handle electric guitars as well. I'm more modern rock, modern country player. This amp only needs to work well enough for a guy jamming in his house, that is all. I don't need to piss of my neighbors any more then I already have with my other hobbie...home theatre.
2. I came across a 2080 online. Gorgeous. Wasn't on sale, just some random website. Anyways, it was a glossy finish, not flat, and almost a carbon sunburst type finish to it. The 2080 on OV's site jst seems like a flat finish to it, and no burst. Is the glossy one just a collectors edition? and is it glossy all around -sides/back? |

The amp. , is a Fender G-DEC ( original issue ).

Life got in the way. I never completely stopped, just never took it serious for a while. Now I got the bug again and loving it. |

Check FENDER`s website .. A Smaller , Less humpty-dumpty version , and, the " bigger ( 30 watts ) honcho" .. the ORIGINAL being the " BEST " one fer Yer purpose ( my opinion ) , and the Beefed-up-one fer Clubs ..

Location: Utah | Newf, any amp designed for an electric guitar will be lacking for an acoustic. But you can get away with an acoustic amp for an electric, sort of, if you are willing to use effects pedals rather than have onboard effects in the amp.
In any case, whatever you use will be a compromise.
The Fender Super Champ XD is a very capable tube amp, with several emulations built in. It is intended for electric guitars, but the acoustic emulator is passable for bedroom use. Not great, and you won't hear all the richness of your Ovation through it.
The other way to go would be a decent 15 to 60 watt acoustic amp. Your acoustic Ovation will sound really nice through one. When you plug in an electric guitar you will have to tweak the EQ. Alternatively, you could get a digital box to put before the acoustic amp and treat the amp as a personal PA. The POD series gets rave reviews though I've not used one. I've got a Pandora which is pretty good really.
I'd say your best to worst options are: 1) A good but cheap pair of amps, one acoustic and one for the electric, 2) A good acoustic amp plus a digital amp emulation box, 2) An acoustic amp with enough EQ adjustment for when you plug in your electric, 3) An electric guitar amp that has a good acoustic amp emulator. |

Playing an Acoustic in the living room does not require amplification , the git. will boom thru the whole house on its own , .. so .. enter that G-DEC , an amp. with many settings .. and INCLUDES a Drummer !! .. who Never gets tired , and is Adustable over a wide range.
In fact , that G-DEC is a Jam-Buddy , one that never complains .
It has a recording loop of several seconds , so ya can record a piece , and during play-back ya can play lead .
It is Incredibly sturdy , mine has tumbled of a speaker cab and kept on going .
And I can imagine that , at home , an Acoustic player could be interested in different sounds from his git., and that build-in drummer is the best metronome I`ve ever had.
Headphone output is in Stereo , hook that up to yer Stereo Hi-fi .. ( Headphone Out to AUX in ) .. and the drummer sounds Fabulous , and so will yer Guitar.
On top of it all , an Acoustic can sound pretty good thru it , the boys at Fender scored bulls-eye with that G-DEC , I`ve had mine since it came out , and have not regretted it for a minute.
