I have a 1996 1866 legend 12 with no nicks or scratches and the top is like new. It has been played and I think it needs a neck reset and fret dressing. My question is: should I wait until spring when the weather is better for shipping? Or, should I just do it and let it sit after I get it back to let it get to a normal temp before I open the case? I really want to get this done but, I will wait if that is what is best. Thanks for your input. Sam

When I contacted the factory back the end of October for a Return Authorization for a repair, an employee stated that if timing wasn't critical, I may as well wait till after the first of the year as their schedule is pretty booked right now. Understand, of course, that wasn't an official company statement only a friendly suggestion which I appreciated greatly and hopefully won't get him in trouble by repeating here. But officially, I friend who did sent one in at about that same time to replace some frets and do a tune-up got a estimated completion time of about 4 months. From my experience, their estimated completion times are actually a bit optimistic right now. Also, I agree with seesquare that shipping during a busy holiday season may not be the best idea as shipping company's staffs will be augmented by minimally trained seasonal workers and, as he put it "due care may be compromised." So, to me, the options would be to either ship it right away knowing you will be without it until early spring, or wait until early spring so you would have use of it during the holidays. Personally, I would wait.

It'll just sit in it's case till then at the mothership either way. YMMV. Regards, Glenn
