Location: On the Coast - Halfway between SF & OR | The statement in Wikipedia,
"Carol White would vividly recount to Josh's archival biographer, Douglas Yeager, that in 1963-1964, the engineers of a new guitar company in development, spent several months with their paperwork and drawings on her dining room table, as Josh and the engineers designed the first round-bodied guitar. Upon completion, the first Ovation Guitar was titled the "Josh White Model". Much to her dismay, however, the company never followed through with their verbal promise of giving Josh stock shares of the company."
really makes it sound as though Josh helped develop the whole ovation concept and then was screwed for his effort. |

Had phone call in middle of reading it opps.
The time doesn't seem to fit.
Why would Guild be proto typing a Josh White
model in 1965 if if he was already involved with Ovation. |

The book is pretty close to right, it had a real good edit. |

Location: SoCal | The book says that White was approached, on the recommendation of Charlie Byrd, with one of the first Ovation guitars. He liked it but wanted a wider neck and 12 frets to the body, like his Guild. They built it and he endorsed it. Doesn't say anything about the company screwing him.
But then a book about Ovation guitars probably wouldn't.
I can't imagine that White would have been offered company stock. Usually, when an artist is offered a signature model, they are given a small percentage of the price of the guitar for every one sold. |
