Hi, I've been to the Ovation site and can't find this info there. Anybody know what the weights are of the 1271 Viper, EA68, and VXT? Mr. O's site lists the 1271 at 8 lbs. Somehow I remember the VXT to be about 6.6 lbs but can't find a reference to confirm that. I'd expect the EA68 to be lightest of all, but how much?

The EA68 is not that light because it is essentially a lightly chambered solid-bodied mahogany guitar with a spruce, maple or ash top. It isn't as heavy as a Les Paul, but my unscientific perception is that it is heavier than the VXT. If I had a scale, I could weigh all three for you.

Book Viper is a tad over 6 lbs,
nylon Viper is about the same,
12 string Viper is about 7.5lbs.

Trying to put this in perspective ... any idea what a typical Strat weighs? Or a Les Paul?

My 1271 Viper weighs about 8.2 pounds... It is quite heavy.

Must be good wood!

The three models are really different. Those EA things shouldn't be called Vipers. :)

I think I remember that the Magnificent Mr. O. had (and sold) a red 1271 Viper that was sub-7 pounds. Can't find the thread right now. I'd like to try one that light.

Les Pauls typically weigh in at about nine pounds. My Standard is just over that. Strat's are noticeably lighter by a few pounds, although the ash bodies seem a tad heavier than the poplar. I need to pick up a light weight scale and take some measurements.

I just obtained temporary access to a pretty good quality digital scale, so I'll take it home tonight, weigh the inventory, and report back tomorrow. I can report that according to the scale, a Fender Jaguar weighs exactly 8 pounds. Stay tuned.

I suppose it shouldn't surprise me that a skinny guy like the Professor doesn't have a scale.
