Saw Adrian Legg last night, first row, six feet away.

The set was simply fabulous. His playing style (simply calling it "fingerstyle" does not do it justice) is magical. Once I stopped trying to figure out how?! and what?! and just sat back and enjoyed the music it was great. The retuning during the song and the effortless harmonics were incredible.

His chatting and explanations behind the songs was really nice - it gave greater insight into the song's "reason d'etre" and lent a cozy feeling to the performance. He told a fair number of stories about his teaching guitar - whoever has the priviledge of learning from him is very lucky, indeed. He didn't say where he taught, only that he really enjoyed teaching students who up to then had "only used their right arm as a flipper." :D

I missed the Adamas - I thought his new guitar (perhaps someone else can detail what it is) was odd looking, somewhat breadwinner/deacon-ish. While it had nice tone and the high-end 'sparkle' of the Adamas I felt it didn't have the 'belly-boom' of the carbon roundback.

Note to Ovation/fender Marketing: Get this guy back in the family and give him a signature model Adamas.

Whether shy or ? he was a bit standoffish after the show and was somewhat reluctant to mingle or sign autographs.

All in all a great show and a steal at $22 per ticket.

the attraction to the guitar he plays is that it fits in an overhead bin on the airplane. He had it made that way.

It's also not as hard on his back. I had a nice chat with him after the show here. He was busy selling CDs and packing up. He didn't have much of a crowd here and didn't know if he'd be invited back. Only $10 here, but I sat at the bar about 20 feet away.

So what Beal is saying is that Adrian probably won't be writing any songs about United Airlines breaking his guitar. IIRC, Adrian did have a rare long-neck Adamas D prototype (1 of very few ever made) and it's on the cover of his "High Strung Tall Tales" CD.

I wanted to see him back in December (I think) but I couldn't make the 1 hour drive to do it.

He teaches here in Brighton at BIM (Brighton Institute of Music).

The guitar is a special made for him by an English guy called Bill Pulpett. Adrian also plays a Brook Creedy.
