I'm seeing a bunch of new 1778LXs on Ebay for $998. Anyone have any idea why they're selling for so cheap? The ads don't mention they're seconds or refurbished or demos. Last time I checked they were selling em for about $1600 or $1700...

I can think of a few possible reasons... One is sales are very slow on evilBay.
They don't do the stores any good just taking-up space.
It is a buyers' market out there.

A couple of the listings do specify 'New In Box' and 'Full Manufacturer Warranty'...
Also saying that they are not 2nds or demo/used/blem.
This might be your last chance to get a good USA for cheap.
When they were unloading Elites, T's and Balladeers for $599...
That was the time to get them.
Even TX's and AX's cost more than that now.

That's a decent price. I got my 1778LX in August of 2007 for $1100.00. I didn't realize they were selling for $16-1700.00. Looks like I had gotten a good deal back then.

I was considering checking out a used 1778 for about $1100 at the local Music Go Round, but decided to check out what they were going for used on Ebay. That's when I discovered the new ones for under $1000. I might have to pick one up...if I could afford it I'd get 2. Now the only question is which color. :D

I saw and played a 1778LX at GC over the weekend. It was like $1200. Sadly, I wasn't impressed with it,

Old Man Arthur: There are a LOT of em on ebay, perhaps like you said they're just taking up space. Maybe they don't move well, something must be up...I don't see any other Ovation models so cheap, but maybe I'm missing something.

BT717: I didn't notice any saying AX. Oklahoma Vintage Guitar had a 1778LX 2010 and said it was USA made, not a second nor a blem or refirb.

Auriemma: why didn't ya like it? sound or playability?
