But WAIT!... For a thousand years various ancestors of the guitar
COMMONLY had a round back: lutes, the oud,
the moorish guitar etc.
stating the obvious, right!
It's the SQUARE box that's a Johnny-come-lately!

Location: The Great Pacific Northwest | I have also brought this factoid up periodically for several years. The fact remains that the "box" shape on modern wood guitars was done for convenience, ease of reproduction, weight, etc..
Ovation makes a proper shaped guitar, that has the same volume and full (wide) tone over the entire length of the fretboard.
