Changing strings and I just had to see the inside of this guitar. In particular the neck block and black bracing. I had not seen these details before. Its a 1974 1117. Sorry for the image quality - they are stills from a small surveillance camera.

***looks like there were t-nuts here at some point in the construction process. My '78 1617 does not have them and the 1617 neck block and heal are both larger.

that's back from the days when you weren't supposed to look in there.

After pondering it since last night - I think they used the t-nuts to hold the block in place in lieu of clamps while the glue set up. That would be glue protruding from the lower hole. Obviously they didn't see a priority in the cosmetics of the insides back in the day. The Elites I've seen are much tidier.

I have to see the inards of things. I'm the guy who would take the watch apart to see what made it work.

The exterior is in total contrast to the roughness of the inside. The top is the flattest I've seen and it plays and sounds great. The only flaw is some frets are popping out - tried tapping them in with no success - so I'll be taking it to the shop. I'm getting set up for guitar shots and will post soon.
