Hi all,

I'm looking to put ebony buttons on my CC24S but I'm not sure which ones to order. What tuner buttons fit these machines?

Thanks!

Well,

I got tired of searching and searching for ebony buttons from other brands to fit the Ping tuning machines, not even knowing if they would be compatible so I just replaced all of the tuning machines with gold Grover Rotomatics (they are a perfect swap BTW no drilling)that I had purchased for my soon to arrive (I Hope) Guild.

I'll just buy another set of Grovers and ebony buttons for the Guild as its MUCH easier to find those buttons than it is the Pings.

IMHO the Grovers (18:1 ratio)are better tuners than what was on the guitar to begin with so it's not only an aesthetic upgrade but I feel it's a functional upgrade as well.

......and it was a LOT less of a headache!

Schaller and Ping buttons are the same.

Grover and Gotoh buttons are the same.

That's what I thought but look just a few posts up and you'll see a differing opinion. Even on the internet I read some descriptions where the buttons were advertised to fit "Grover and Schaller" machines so you can see where it becomes confusing.

Also are the Ping tuning machines on my CC24S the same Pings as on the higher line Ovations? I sure hope not because compared to the Grovers the Pings on my CC24S were not even close in quality. I would hope the Adamas line or USA line Ovations had better Pings than what came on my guitar. So if they are different is the shaft size still the same?? I don't know.

So, as you can see there were/are a lot of questions to sift through before ordering a set of ebony buttons on line. Returning things on line isn't always as easy as we would like and I'd hate to get stuck with a set of buttons I "thought" would fit.

Again, by switching the tuning machines I not only got the look I wanted but I put on better tuners too.....win, win.

The problem is that not ALL Ping tuners are the same, not ALL Grover tuners are the same, and not all GOTOH are the same.

So, what I SHOULD have written is that I own all 4 types and on MINE I was able to fit the SAME Schaller buttons on both Schaller and Ping. and I was able to use the same Grover buttons on Grover and Gotoh.

Best choice is to just buy whole new tuners which was a smart move on your part.

I hear ya...

It makes perfect sense and if I bought buttons to fit Shaller machines the odds are they probably would have fit my Celebrity but without the luxury of being able to try them out I was hesitant to pull the trigger on a purchase.

Like you said, I think my best decision was to replace the machines, I really like these Grovers and I was sure the ebony buttons fit on them.

Here are a few pictures of my CC24S

Yeah, they do. I have Rotomatics and SuperRotomatics on some guitars and they are real nice machines. I believe the Rotomatics were standard on some early Ovations.

Ping are using at least 2 shaft sizes, one of which is compatible with the Schaller M6 button, the other is way smaller. Gotoh are also using at least 2 Shaft sizes and again one is compatible with Schaller, the other is compatible with Grover (I think)

Grover and Schaller machines each use only 1 shaft dimension, but they are different to each other and buttons are not interchangable between them.
