Seems to be that strings kinda wore away some of the wood on the bridge. Anyone else have this happen?
Is there a fix short of replacing the bridge?

If the bridge is that far gone, try slipping the string through a tiny washer before threading it through the bridge. Never had that problem though - seems unusual.

I was tempted to suggest string tubes....

PEZ,

I haven't seen an issue like you state. Any pics?

I'm not sure if this will aid you temporarily, but...

How 'bout aligning the ball ends openings and putting an ol' low E string, cut to length, thru 'em. That may help a bit until you get better info from the 'pros' here.

Stiff wire through the 6 ball ends. Pros: May improve sustain and give a brighter tone. Cons: difficult to change out a single string.

Go to the artsy-craftsy store and get some little beads...
And then do the nylon-string trick with your steel-string ball-end.
That will make the ends larger, plus lessen the wear until you figure-out a Real repair.

Hope that helps! (It is really late/early here... )

Don't know. Could be physics, could be BS.

I'd be interested to know if anyone else tries it. Note the wire extends a little wider the strings to make good contact with the bridge as well as all the ball ends.

You'll be ripping out those string tubes... ;)

String tubes are made to be removed after the string is threaded through the bridge. If you leave them on permanently you get buzzing.

Sypalog,
I love it!
More believable than String Tubes (patent pending) and quite eloquent.

You can also dab some Cyano Glue in the area to Polymerize the wood.

maybe you could drill out the string holes and add Telecaster-String-Ferrules:
